Well, it’s finally upon us—Election Day 2024. Technically, we don’t really have one Election Day. Today represents the end of the voting period, as voters have been casting their ballots for several days or weeks during early voting.
If you haven’t already voted or delivered your ballot, make sure to do so today. If you make it in line by poll closing time, then you are allowed to vote. And while you’re waiting in line, here are a few things to occupy your time:
Listen to episodes of the Democracy Optimist podcast, all available on Apple, Spotify, and other podcast sites.
Read up on what I’ve been thinking about over the past few weeks:
What I’m Watching on Election Night, Washington Monthly, Nov. 5, 2024
With huge success of early voting, Kentucky needs to make even more reforms, Lexington Herald-Leader, Nov. 4, 2024.
On Voting Rights, Trump and Harris Couldn’t Be Farther Apart, Washington Monthly, Oct. 30, 2024.
Do You Have Questions About When and Where to Vote, Candidates and Issues Up and Down the Ballot? We’ve Got You Covered, Washington Monthly, Oct. 28, 2024.
Noncitizens Are Not Voting in Massive Numbers, Washington Monthly, Oct. 22, 2024.
The Continuing War on Easier Access to Voting, Washington Monthly, Sept. 17, 2024.
I don’t think the presidential election will come down to the Supreme Court, but you could also check out my book, The Court v. The Voters, on how the Court has harmed the right to vote. If you’re voting at a library, see if it’s on the shelf before you join the line!
I’ll be on Twitter/X most of tonight. You might catch me on TV or the radio, at least in Kentucky. And if you have specific questions about the election, feel free to drop me an email.
It’s Election Day—and I’m still a Democracy Optimist. Let’s do this!
Thanx Prof. D.!
